Purpose of the Homeownership Retention Campaign and Foreclosure Prevention Workshop
The intent of Homeownership Retention is Campaign to provide a local source of counseling support and direction for homeowners who may be facing some level of mortgage distress. Whether they foresee the possibility of difficulty or they are already in receipt of a mortgage default letter from their lender, they are encouraged to participate in the process. The concept is to provide support, clarification, options, and resources from both the counseling agency staff and mortgage servicing companies offering options ranging from “refinancing” to mortgage modification options with Fannie Mae, FHA, Freddie Mac VA or other conventional mortgage programs.
Initial Access
Initial access will be through a group activity classroom setting to be known as “An Overview of Foreclosure Prevention”. The class will serve to provide an overview of typical options available to many people facing foreclosure. An offer of additional one-on-one counseling will be made available to class participants. Although it is highly recommended that home owners in distress attend an HRC Class attendance is not mandatory in order to receive assistance from HEA. There is no cost associated with this program and home owners in financial distress or facing possible foreclosure should not pay for these services. Foreclosure prevention services are offered for free by Housing and Education Alliance, Inc. and other HUD approved housing counseling agencies.
