Prevent Loan Scammers

The Lawyer’s Committee, with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and NeighborWorks America, lead the Loan Modification Scam Prevention Network, which operates in consultation with a steering committee comprised of representatives of federal and state governmental agencies, government sponsored enterprises, national and local non profit organizations.

The Network educates the public about the dangers of loan modification scams and supports the efforts of enforcement agencies and public interest legal organizations to put loan modification scammers out of business.

Simply Ask Yourself:

Did anyone offer to help modify your mortgage, either directly or through advertising such as a flyer?

Were you guaranteed a loan modification or asked to do to any of the following:

Pay a fee
Sign a contract
Redirect mortgage payments
Sign over title to your property
Stop making loan payments

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, we ask that you take the time to file a complaint.

The Network is working to increase reporting in order to foster an environment conducive to homeowner empowerment, increased enforcement actions and the development of impact cases.
